- Linux adoption remains hard to measure
I've written about this subject on numerous occasion, attempting to define the problem space, suggest solutions, etc. I have come to the conclusion that no one answer exists and that each Linux distro community will have to come to grips with what works best for them. The reality is that what Linux operating systems gain from being open and freely available, they lose in being able to paint a definite picture of their community.
- Linux kernel 2.6.22 released
Includes driver and networking fixes, new fireware and wireless stacks and support for the Blackfin architecture. Neat-o.
- Samba goes with GPL v3 for future releases
Samba is an established leader within the global open source community so it will be interesting to see how this move affects the decision of others regarding GPL v3...
- Sun releases PostgreSQL benchmark numbers
Talk of which performs better between Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL is just that...talk. Benchmark numbers, even if they're from a for-profit company like Sun, actually demonstrate something. Of course when it comes to database benchmarks, questions regarding tuning will always accompany discourse surrounding the results.
- Sun to give Solaris a Linux makeover
This is simply an announcement put over the wire. I'm waiting to see what/how/when Sun intends to make good on this...that will be worth tracking and talking about.
- Making Eclipse the Linux IDE
This sounds like a potential home run for both Linux and Eclipse communities. Tying LSB and Eclipse modules together opens the door to some particularly juicy opportunities.
