Kudos to the Eclipse team, which released Europa which features 21 Eclipse projects at more than double the size of last year’s release.
- Open source, VC's and the GPL
It's going to be interesting to observe how imminent changes in the open source licensing landscape is going to affect the relationship between the VC's and the open source marketplace. Savio brings up some good points here, especially surrounding the take on how the GPL will influence the M&A market for open source companies.
- Analyst blogging
Gartner's prediction of a decline in blogging might actually have some numerical basis in the reality that the growth of blogging is typically measured in the number of new blogs created. A number which is bound to eventually decrease. However, if they are hinting at a decline of blogging as an influential medium, they are sadly off the mark.
- James on why many enterprises aren't contributing to open source
James' commentary rings true on a number of levels, still I have to wonder how many are contributing but none outside its walls know it. Perhaps its time to encourage them to emerge from those walled castles and open up. This might be the best way to invigorate further contribution from others.
