Survey Shows Americans are Getting Obsessed with their web life

A survey conducted by JWT advertising among 1,011 American adults showed that majority of them could not last a week without going online on the web. When asked how long they would feel alright without going online, 15 percent answered a day or less, 21 percent answered a couple of days and 19 percent answered a few days. One fifth of those surveyed, answered that they can manage not to go online for a week.

The survey was conducted by JWT to find out how technology is affecting the behavior of American adults who spend more of their time on the web rather than spending quality time with their friends and partners. Ann Mack director of trend spotting at JWT told Reuters that people feel isolated, anxious and bored whenever they are not online.

"They felt disconnected from the world, from their friends and family," says Mack.

The survey also showed that 20 percent of the respondents are foregoing their sexual activities due to the time they spend online. "It is taking away from offline activities, among them having sex, socializing face-to-face, watching TV and reading newspapers and magazines. It cuts into that share," says Mack.

Another interesting trend that came out of the survey was the respondents dependency on mobile gadgets which enable them to connect online even when they are on the go. Some of these respondents were not even satisfied anymore with their broadband connections at home, with most of them feeling the need to own handheld devices.

The results of the survey also prompted JWT to come up with the term "digitivity denizens", to represent real people whose lives are so tied up with technology, infusing it in the way they communicate, entertain and live.
