Teens Share IT News Limelight

Do not underestimate the power of the young minds because these young minds can achieve a lot especially in the IT field. Last week, the New York Times reported a New Jersey seventeen year old geek unlocking the iPhone. With the use of a soldering gun and some unknown software, George Hotz, a science whiz kid, was able to run the iPhone with a non AT and T network. It took the 17 year old dead ringer for actor Elijah Wood, to make the iPhone run using T-Mobile network. He published a detailed instruction of unlocking the iPhone in his blog.
Similarly today, a 16 year old Australian teen was reported to have successfully disabled the cyber barrier technology which was launched by Prime Minister John Howard earlier this month. The teen-ager told the Associated Broadcasting Corp., that it took him 30 minutes to disable the $69 million worth of security software. The software was supposed to be distributed freely to all Australian family by the government. The government is currently investigating the unconfirmed report as of press time though.
These two incidents is a clear example of how the youth is conquering the technology field today. With so many information sources available for these teen-agers to read, understand and analyze, the internet has become a very potent off-classroom educational tool. This coupled with the innate intelligence of youth nowadays contribute to the youth of today’s technological awareness and intelligence.
But looking at these two incidents on the negative side, some conservative minds may find this technology too much of a good effect. We could just imagine what this young minds can achieve a couple of years more.
