Movable Type Publishing Platform Releases 4.0

Finally, the much anticipated new release of one of the most powerful and easy use publishing platform is officially out. Movable Type 4.0 is the platform's biggest update so far and promises to give MT users more useful and advanced features. Among these updates are

Completely redesigned user interface – new graphically enhanced display of blogging activities, enhanced dashboard, multiple blog management More powerful publishing capabilities – robust templating which includes error message warning, smarter archiving Better plugins and more built ins – easier to install plugin selections Exclusive MT innovations – built in support for OpenID, user registration and permission setting Unique features – Powerful support for unlimited number of blogs with facility to integrate blog post into a single page Best documentation – 75 pages of rewritten MT documentation.

In case you are not aware, ITGumbo is using Movable Type as a blogging platform. Having extensively used the other popular blogging platform, WordPress I can’t help but feel biased towards WordPress. When I started using Movable Type in IT20, I admit I really had a hard time adjusting to its interface. But I’ve got used to it and learned to love it since I started blogging for ITGumbo. I’ve noticed some flaws and interestingly, these were being addressed with the current release of the platform.

If you’re new to Movable Type, now it’s the best time to start using it. It may get cranky at first, but like me, you will learn to love it as you progress in using the platform. Who knows, if you try using MT, you might stop using WordPress as your choice of platform for your own blog.
