Climezine.com Launches, the Green Dot Com that Matters
Climezine.com is the newest kid in the social news aggregation scene. But unlike Digg, Rojo, Techmeme and other social news site, Climezine differs itself for being the only green dot com that matters. The social news site really does matter for compiling web news and articles about climate change and green house gas emission.
Founded by environmentalist Eric van den Berg and IT specialist is Maarten Blokdijk, both from Netherlands and who were inspired to established the social news portal after watching the video-documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. The two Climezine founders explain the reason behind the creation of the social news site as:
We are socially engaged to these problems, not politically. We are not an activist group or take part in one. Nevertheless we hope that our initiative will attract lots of people like us so that we could share information, photos and movie clips on our planet, and its state it is in.
Climezine just like any other social sites contains user generated news, articles, pictures and other information that relates to the growing issue on environmental protection and the mitigation of its degradation.
Looking at the interface of the Climezine portal reminds me of popular social news aggregator Rojo.com, only with a green touch on the over all design. Climezine has all the ingredients of a well crafted social site such as tagging, user participation icon for emailing, adding comment and rating all the articles that are featured on the site.
In due time if given the proper promotion and buzz, Climezine could very well compete with other social news portal. And a social project such as this deserves a good amount of attention not only for its technical merits but also because of its social relevance.
