Could Microsoft's "7" Save the Day? or Seal the Fate?
The next version of Microsoft’s client version of its operating systems is reported to be released three years from now. Previously code named “Vienna”, will now be called Windows 7 when it is released.
ZDNet news reports that:
“Like Vista, Windows 7 will ship in consumer and business versions, and in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The company also confirmed that it is considering a subscription model to complement Windows, but did not provide specifics or a time frame.”
Through the years, Microsoft hasn’t learned any lessons with regards to product releases and upgrades. We’ve seen these press releases before. And we all know that it’s another product press release that would only gather some spite and criticisms from skeptics, loyal users, and the like.
After all the hype and buzz about its previously launched OS- Vista, which Microsoft touted as revolutionary and ground breaking, look where it is now? Has it really revolutionize anything? The overly hyped Vista is now among the much ridiculed and highly criticized software product because of its flaws and shortcomings.
And yes, Microsoft needed to spring back from its dismal failure with Vista, but I don’t think the new version its client-side OS is the answer. It might on the other hand aggravate Microsoft’s current status in the IT industry as a has been and “always lagging” behind with its toughest rival in the software market arena – Apple, Inc.
