Can Yang Find Yahoo's Ying?

Now that the buzz about the departure of Terry Semel from being the CEO of Yahoo, has died down a bit, speculators, bloggers and industry analysts have focused their attention to Semel's successor, Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang. There has been a lot speculations, predictions and what-have-yous on how Yang will run the internet's second biggest search engine company. Can Yang bring back the glory days of Yahoo? Can Yahoo re-elevate itself from its current position to a spot somewhere near, if not in the same level as that of Google?

Some analysts say that the problem with Yahoo is not in Yahoo itself, but the fact that it is always being compared with Google. And being compared with the internet's best money making venture puts a lot of pressure on Yahoo. Some even suggest that the best way for Yahoo to beat Google in the search engine battle is for Yahoo to merge with Microsoft. But that's another story all together.

A USA Today points out that another problem with Yahoo is its lack of social media. A social media applications that integrates seamlessly with other Yahoo products and services is vital if Yahoo wants to be a strong competitor against Google. Actually, that could probably be the ticket to Yahoo's re-emergence and what other IT companies should focus on in order to bring Google a step lower than where it is right now. Innovate on web products and services, developed seamlessly integrated web applications and tools and make a simpler internet portal that is useful, concise and uncluttered.
