Yahoo! Travel 2.0
Yahoo introduces some new features of its Travel portal by making it more “web 2.0ish” incorporating social networking capabilities that travelers can use to plan their trips, record travel experiences and tourist spot recommendations.
Jasper Malcolmson, Yahoo Travel Director said in a CNET News report said:
“What Netflix has done for movies and what Amazon has done for book recommendations we're doing for travel recommendations”
These new features of Yahoo Travel include:
- social networking tool such as: trip planner, interactive map maker, online travel journal and photos
- social tagging of places visited,
- today’s destination picks,
- hotel and flight booking options based on the user’s location,
- yahoo messenger flight planner,
The development was a pretty useful improvement indeed, although users have to make sure that they are signed in to their account before visiting the site to ensure that relevant travel information are displayed. In order to fully utilize this service, Yahoo account users must enter truthful information about their selves so that Yahoo can effectively give the right information to them.
I like the journal like widgets the most. Makes a perfect way of documenting trips and travel experiences. The navigational geomap may not as pretty as Google Earth, but it is nonetheless an effective tool for accessing relevant information related to different geographical locations.
