Women are Dominating the Web
Well, at least for the UK web population, a recent survey by NetRatings reveal that 18% of the active online British people are young female with ages ranging from 18 to 34. Although, the survey shows that generally, the online presence of male and female Brits are almost the same, with 50.5 men and 49.5 women.
NetRatings’ Alex Burmaster said in a WebUser news report by Ben Camm-Jones,
"The internet is no longer dominated by young male adults. Times have changed considerably and many will be very surprised to see that women aged 18-34 are now the most prevalent group online and that a quarter of the online population is at least 50 years of age."
There are two points that can be derived from the result of this survey. One, its effect on the advertising contents of websites which are sure to change the type of advertising that would cater to young female population. And two, the predominance of young female Brits could be attributed to the prevalence of various social networking sites which could be the most visited sites of the young female population. I believe there are more female who are into social networking than their male counterpart.
But, yes, the female population is indeed dominating the web with their presence. I would have to agree to that. And lest I be accused of anything, let me say that there is nothing wrong with female dominance on the web, or any other aspects of life for that matter.
