Study Warns Bloggers to be Cautious of What they Post

BBC News reports that 1/3 of UK bloggers are risking their day job by posting derogatory statements, rants or raves about their frustrations and disappointments about their work. In a survey commissioned by Croner, a human resource company, around 2,000 employees who maintain their own personal blogs and post harmful comments about their company maybe charged with gross misconduct and thereby cause the termination of their employment with the company.

According to Croner technical consultant Gilian Dowling, part-time bloggers, or those currently employed in a day job who blogs while they are not working should not be mislead by the informality of blogging as a medium of expression. This informality does not guaranty their safety from getting fired from their day job.

According to Croner technical consultant Gilian Dowling, part-time bloggers, or those currently employed in a day job who blogs while they are not working should not be mislead by the informality of blogging as a medium of expression. This informality does not guaranty their safety from getting fired from their day job.

Dowling added that blogging employees should not reveal any financial information and other vital data about their company to avoid future legal actions filed against them.

So, for part-time bloggers who maintains a day job, make sure that whatever they post in their personal blogs of diaries or in any network blogs they participate in and write for, are free from criticism and ridicule of their current office.

Blogs, being a powerful medium for advocacy and opinion airing, should not be taken advantage of. Bloggers who might encounter legal impediments or conflict with their company should be cautious when writing their posts, be it personal thoughts or work related.

The fame, some money gained from online publishing and ad tie ups will not be worthy of losing one’s stable and continous source of income from maintaing day jobs.
