MySpace Turns Japanese

Looks like the Japanese have beaten the Chinese in launching their own localized version of top social networking site, MySpace. While MySpace China is currently on test mode, News Corp’s social networking site has announced the launch of MySpace Japan.

The Associated Free Press Reports via Yahoo Tech News that:

“Nearly 1,300 users have already uploaded personal videos onto the Japanese website, with thousands viewing short films that range from one titled "the screams of the sausage" to homemade music videos.”

Hoping to get a share of the Japanese social network service market which is currently dominated by Mixi, a local Japanese social network site, MySpace is bringing the same social network facility to Japan. Banking on the Japanese company Softbank Corp., MySpace hopes entice more Japanese into its fold. How exactly MySpace is going to do this, with Mixi’s unlimited video storage, that we will have to monitor in the coming days, weeks, months or a year at the most.

The only con of having MySpace in the local Japanese online market, which I could see is the challenge of cultural sanitation. The Japanese is definitely far conservative than other countries which utilize MySpace.

The report said that MySpace Japan will be closely monitored and uploaded videos which compromises the Japanese culture or violate copyright infringement will be deleted at once.

So, which country is next? Rupert Murdoch’s is on the roll the past couple of days. I’m sure more localized MySpace portals will be launched in the coming days.
