Introducing Microsoft's Surface

Microsoft today announces its biggest and most ambitious project yet. The coffee table home furniture/computing device, Surface. Microsoft’s Surface works without the mouse, nor a keyboard but using touch to execute commands, drop photos from a cellphone, flip through pages of documents and other cool features to boot.

If you have watched the Minority Report and could not forget the giant screen that Tom Cruise and his friends used to locate future crime scenes and other important information, Microsoft’s Surface works pretty similar to that.

Among the cool features of Surface is its highly sensitive device recognition technology. That is, when a user places a smart phone with built-in wi-fi, Surface would immediately detect this device http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSN2819912120070530?feedType=RSSand connects to it. Once connected, Surface would then prompt users what operations they want to perform. That is, to download or upload photos, music and files to and from Surface and the device that was on top of it. Yup, no need to establish connection and setup various settings to enable wireless communication from the two different devices.

Aside from this cool feature, Microsoft’s Surface also recognizes barcodes and other product coding system. It also serves as a scanner that links the products to a main data center.

Good enough? But wait, there are more useful features that will be packed into Surface which would be useful not only for office applications but in home settings as well.

The question now is, would the end-product be as useful as what it is intended to be or will it just be the same with other Microsoft products which is full of hype but lacking in power and usability.

That we will see as soon as Microsoft’s surface is officially launch and mass production for consumer consumption gets started. Let’s all wait together for that time to come sooner that we can think of.
