Blogs and other Web 2.0 Technology as Educational Tools in Singapore
Singapore, Asia’s “tech-savviest” and most wired country is employing innovative teaching tools such as blogs replacing blackboards, table PCs (replacing traditional notebooks and writing materials?), among other Web 2.0 applications. Spearheading these information and communications technology program are five schools where all the mentioned educational materials will be deployed.
In an AFP report via Yahoo Tech News, the Singapore’s Ministry of Education said:
"ICT tools such as immersive virtual environments and educational games will be used to enhance learning, these schools will push the frontiers of teaching and learning practices by harnessing ICT at a school-wide level.”
With the current development in information technology, It is but timely for this kind of effort to employ these technologies in an area where it will be efficiently utilized, and that is the education sector. Singapore, with its not so big population is the perfect place where such educational innovation employing web applications and technology could best be tested.
The country has the infrastructure and the resources to pull this one out. And I also believe that its people are technologically literate enough to embrace such new program. I could only imagine the kind of students, such educational setting would develop.
