Yahoo Music Expands : To Unveil Lyrics Database
Yahoo is set to unveil the internet’s largest database of music lyrics as part of the expansion of its Yahoo music services, an Associated Press Reports via Yahoo Tech News. The said lyrics database would be the internet’s only legal repository of copyrighted lyrics, as opposed to various lyrics’ sites which are infringing copyrights from its rightful owners – the artists themselves.
Also, to properly compensate these artists of their intellectual work, Yahoo is going to share earnings from ads that will be displayed alongside individual online lyrics’ sheets. Boosting of accuracy since the lyrics would come from the legal source itself, and freeing the site of annoying pop-ups compared to other lyrics resources on the web, the Yahoo Lyrics Database currently has 400,000 lyrics in storage and waiting for users’ perusal.
Looks like Yahoo has found an avenue where it can easily thrive without competition from its fiercest rival Google. This is one service that Google hasn’t explored yet and which is quite popular among netizens. With the Lyrics Database, Yahoo had certainly cracked up a pot of gold, since lyrics search is one of the most popular searches conducted on the web.
I wonder when Google is coming up with its own music portal? Or is it already in the works?
