Two Monitors Definitely Worth a Look

Not too long ago, widescreen displays were considered luxury items. Now they are a necessity, due to the growing number of multimedia applications available to consumers and professionals alike. With all the different LCDs available, I thought you could use some help in choosing the right one.

Viewsonic’s VX2255WB 22-inch Widescreen Multi-Function HD LCD offers the perfect blend of picture quality and ergonomics. Typical of 22-inch flat-panel widescreen displays, the VX2255WB has a 1,680 x 1,050 pixel native resolution. The unit is a dual-input analog/digital LCD display with VGA and DVI inputs. It has a contrast ratio of 700:1, a viewing angle of 170 degrees horizontally and 160 degrees vertically, and a response time of 5 milliseconds.
As for the multimedia aspects of the LCD, the monitor features a Webcam, a microphone, and built-in stereo speakers. The audio-video features of the unit will provide users with video conferencing as well as integrated VoIP applications.
Similar items offered by Viewsonic include the VX1945WM 19-inch and 22-inch Widescreen Viewdock Computer Display. These two monitors feature an integrated iPod dock, 8-in-1 card reader, 4-port USB 2.0 hub, and 2.1 stereo speakers.
Depending on where you look, folks can find the VX2255WB 22-inch Widescreen on-line for as little as $315.

Samsung has always manufactured quality monitors. It was one of the first companies to introduce the widescreen viewing angle to the mainstream public, and with a plethora of monitors to choose from. The Samsung 226BW 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor, for example, is definitely worth a look.
Image clarity and crispness are two terms that come to mind when looking at the display’s image quality. With a wide 16:10 aspect ratio, multitasking will never be an issue again. The display provides a 160/160-degree viewing angle, a 1680 x 1050 native resolution, a contrast ratio of 1000:1, and an ultra-fast 2ms (G to G) response time, which is perfect for motion-graphics editing.
For the most part, the majority of monitor manufacturers these days does not ship with any type of fine tuning software. Samsung is the exception. The company ships with MagicBright 3, MagicColor, and MagicTune.
MagicBright3 is a new feature that provides the best viewing environment—depending upon the contents of the image. MagicTune is Samsung’s OSD (On-Screen Display) solution that provides simple, convenient adjustment options for the best image quality. These applications provide users with complete control of color adjustment, and make working with graphics programs and multiple tool palettes much more comprehensible.
Samsung also offers the unit in 20-inch and 19-inch widescreen formats.
Prices on the 226BW 22-inch Widescreen LCD are comparable to Viewsonic’s 22-inch. I was able to locate it for $319.
